XLR Audio Lab · 4 missions
Signal Quest.
Build the path, set clean levels, find the fault, and stop feedback. Each mission teaches one rule you can use at a real event.
Mission 01 · Signal flow
Connect sound from voice to audience.
A signal moves in one direction. Select the four pieces in the order the audio should travel.
- 1Start
- 2Then
- 3Then
- 4Finish
Mission 02 · Gain staging
Land the signal in the green.
Set enough input gain for a healthy signal, then use the master for room level. Aim between −12 and −6 dBFS without clipping.
Mission 03 · Troubleshooting
The mic has signal—but the room is silent.
The receiver meter moves when you speak. The mixer input meter also moves. The speaker is powered on. What should you check next?
Mission 04 · Feedback
Put the microphone in the safe zone.
Feedback starts when sound from the speaker re-enters the microphone and loops. Choose the safer position for a speech.
Quest complete · 400 XP
You understand the path.
You built a signal chain, set clean gain, followed the meters, and kept a microphone out of the feedback loop.
Keep these four rules
A quick field guide.
- 01Follow the signal
Start at the source and check each connection in order. Random knob-turning hides the real fault.
- 02Gain first, volume second
Build a clean input signal before turning up the room. Red lights usually mean distortion, not more usable loudness.
- 03Trust the meters
If one device shows signal and the next does not, the problem is usually between them.
- 04Keep mics behind speakers
Aim loudspeakers away from open microphones. More distance gives you more gain before feedback.
